About Counselling 4th September 2010

Counselling is a way of working with people who are usually in distress or some degree of confusion and wish to discuss and resolve these issues in a relationship that is genuine, focused and confidential. Counselling is also used by people who are specifically seeking personal or professional development.

Some of the problems that people bring to counselling include

  • relationships
  • bereavement
  • loss
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • abuse
  • trauma
  • stress
  • anger
  • difficult decisions
  • work issues
  • identity including sexual identity
  • low self-esteem

It is very important to have confidence in the counsellor that you are working with. For more information go to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy website Click Here

Here are some of the comments that people have made to me about counselling in their post counselling anonymous evaluations:

"I was quite cynical about counselling, I thought it was a modern indulgence, I was wrong, it was just what was needed"

"Counselling has helped me to cope with the problem and approach those issues with a different attitude"

"The counsellor was very supportive, kind, professional and empathic and I
    would highly recommend her"

"Insightful, supportive conversation with a degree of objectivity, and confidential"

"Had a very poor attitude to counselling before attending. Can't believe how much its helped. Completely different attitude"
