Mindfulness
The mindfulness stress reduction programme (MBSR) is designed to help you learn new ways of managing difficult physical sensations, feelings and moods. The core skill is mindfulness, a way of paying attention, on purpose, non judgementally to what goes on in your body, mind and the world around you. Mindfulness has been widely researched and is used to help people manage:
depression
anxiety
chronic pain
stress
chronic conditions
The 8 week 2 hourly course which is a combination of the MBSR course developed by Jon Kabat Zinn and the mindfulness based cognitive therapy course developed by Williams, Tindale and Zindal and is in the NICE guidelines includes:
mindfulness meditation
body awareness
stretching and movement
group discussion
home practice
The next course starts on Tuesday 5th October 2010 in Yeovil and runs for 8 weeks. There is also a half day of mindfulness on a weekend morning. The cost of the course including CDs and a course handbook is £195.00. The next Taunton course starts in January 2011.
In addition to my therapy and training experience I have trained in teaching mindfulness with the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at the University of North Wales. I also teach mindfulness on a one to one basis.
